Lisa Spivey helped me get into the dream school I didn't even realize was my dream school! Had it not been for her, I would have never even known where to start regarding college applications, but she helped me through the entire process, from deciding where to apply to helping me with scholarships and everything in between.

I have known Mrs. Spivey for eight years now, since I became a freshman in high school in 2008, and she remains the most dedicated counselor I have ever met. While I was fortunate to have access to an outstanding college counselor, Mrs. Spivey proved crucial in aiding and supporting my college application process. Her passion for her students and her commitment to them is truly exemplary. Having attended an academically rigorous high school, her support was crucial in helping me achieve my goals and make it through that program successfully. I attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, for four years, where I graduated in May 2016 with my BA in History (Magna cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa), and now will begin graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Information to attain a Master of Science in Information Studies in January 2017. My high school prepared me thoroughly for college, and Mrs. Spivey made that experience more rewarding and manageable, which then carried over into making my college career more successful. She is supportive, encouraging, and simply a wonderful advisor and friend to have with you as you go through the stress of applying for college.

Mrs. Spivey provided critical guidance during the college admissions process. In addition to providing letters of recommendation for admissions and scholarships, I could count on Mrs. Spivey for great advice and a different perspective from my own. After being accepted to 7 out of 8 of my universities, Mrs. Spivey encouraged me to take an opportunity outside of my comfort zone. I am very grateful for her guidance at that time in my life.

I've known that I wanted to be a doctor since I was about 12 years old, and this was a focus of mine throughout my high school careerin a manner that both exposed me to my interests and developed a strong resue for college applications. When I later developed a strong interest in engineering, and deicded I wanted to apply to Biomedical Engineering programs, Mrs. Spivey helped me find and evaluate programs for the strength of their engineering program, how well they would set me up for medical school applications, and affordability, which were my top concerns. She also made the actual application process vastly easier, from providing a list of information that I should give to teachers writing my letters of recommendation, to giving me specific, clear timeline for each step in the process. Eight years later, I'm exactly where I told her I wanted to be, and her help was invaluable in getting me here.

The process of choosing a college was a difficult one. I had many options, mixed support from my father and just not a real sense of identity of who I wanted to be. Mrs. Spivey was my college and career counselor and she made nothing less than a small miracle happen. She was there to answer any questions (believe me, I had a lot), keep my father on board with my life, and help in just anyway she could. With her help I just finished the best semester of my life. I am incredibly involved and doing exceptionallywell with my grades. I found my college and she will help you find yours.

Mrs. Spivey facilitated my application process to college by checking that I turned in the correct materials on time and even wrote a letter of recommendation. She also helped me narrow my focus on which universities would be most beneficial for me to attend based on personality and professional aspirations. I couldn't have asked for a better counselor as she made the experience less daunting and got me excited about my future.
